Welcome.  I am excited about this school year.  I have been with the Wylie School District since 1997.  I have taught Kindergarten, First Grade, and First Grade Title One Reading.  Currently I am working with Second Grade Title One Reading and Dyslexia at the Elementary Campus.   I began working with Second Grade Title One Reading in 2007 and with Dyslexia students in 2010.

Helping students gain understanding and use of reading skills to become fluent, independent readers is such a rewarding endeavor daily.  In the Second Grade Title One Reading Department we read daily and provide students with the skills to solve independently.  We also practice spelling, writing, and letter formation.  Each night a book is sent home for Familiar Reading practice.  Continued practice with familiar text helps with fluency rate.  Fluency rate is the ease and speed at which text is read.

Helping Dyslexic students with their reading skills is highly rewarding as well.  The Dyslexia Intervention Program is used by myself and Ms. Julie Brown to develop independent reading.  The program is a systematic phonics program based on Orton and Gillingham research.
